Get Thunderbird to Launch Firefox

From Stack Overflow

I use Kubuntu (the Feisty Fawn version) and prefer Firefox and Thunderbird as my browser and mailer. Regardless of my Kubuntu/KDE (or even Gnome) URL handler settings, Thunderbird still seems to want to launch Konqueror as the web browser. The following tweaks allow Firefox to launch Thunderbird for mailto: links and Thunderbird to launch Firefox for URLs.

Re: thunderbird not handing hyperlinks to firefox

Just my 2 cents:

I have Konqueror and firefox installed in Kubuntu. I have Mozilla and firefox installed in Ubuntu.

Both Ubuntu and Kubuntu are updated this morning about 9:30 (US Pacific, 16:30 UTC).

In $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/0sxhvpmh.default/user.js I have added:

user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.mailto", "/usr/bin/mozilla-thunderbird");

In $HOME/.mozilla-thunderbird/default.q6a/user.js I have added:

user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.http", "/usr/bin/firefox");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.https", "/usr/bin/firefox");

I haven't done any of the other things mentioned in this thread to get thunderbird to use firefox and vice versa, and it works as I would expect: firefox invokes thunderbird on mailto link clicks; thunderbird invokes firefox on url link clicks.

Granted, this bypasses all of the desktop avenues for managing this kind of thing in favor of application specific methods, but the desktop methods seem to be a little scattered at the moment.
